Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers Puts the Call Out for Volunteers

Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers is looking for volunteers to support their on-going crime prevention efforts. The organization is seeking individuals who are passionate about building safe, welcoming communities through a variety of activities including events, fundraising, community outreach, educational initiatives, and spreading awareness about the Crime Stoppers anonymous tips program.

Since 1987, CK Crime Stoppers has been a trusted non-profit organization that plays a crucial role in keeping local communities safe by providing a way for people to anonymously report information regarding criminal activity and pays rewards for tips.

“We are looking for more amazing community volunteers to help, especially with public events,” Erica McIntosh, Program Coordinator for CK Crime Stoppers. “We see this as a real opportunity for people to be a part of their community and help make all of Chatham-Kent an even better place to live.”

One such large event that requires community and volunteer support is the CK Crime Stoppers 2nd Annual Golf Tournament. This initiative is an important fundraiser that helps to ensure ongoing viability of the organization.

“We have amazing sponsors and welcome any business or community member who would like to contribute to reach out! We also need volunteers to help with the event including preparation, setup, and cleanup,” said McIntosh. “Last year was a huge success and this year is looking to be even better.”

Crime Stoppers programs across Canada have helped solve thousands of cases, recover stolen property, and remove dangerous criminals from communities. These successes would not be possible without community participation and volunteer support. Locally, in 2024 CK Crime Stoppers were able to clear 120 cases thanks to tips, leads, and information submitted. In addition, they paid out thousands of dollars to qualifying tipsters.

According to the CK Crime Stoppers website, there are five key reasons to volunteer including you can make a difference, give back to your community, gain valuable experience, meet like-minded people, and help raise awareness.

“Volunteers are at the very heart of our program and make it possible for CK Crime Stoppers to exist,” said Erica McIntosh, Program Coordinator for CK Crime Stoppers. “Our Board is comprised of volunteers, we have a growing volunteer base that supports our outreach, and even going back over 38 years it has been volunteers that have helped to lead the way.”

An online application to volunteer is available online through the CK Crime Stoppers website at https://www.ckcrimestoppers.ca/volunteer.
